Yoga holidays: Samahita Yoga Thailand

Wednesday, 24 August 2011 12:08 PM

Where is it? Samahita Yoga Thailand is located on the tropical Thai island of Koh Samui right on the sea shore. It lies on the quieter less developed southern coast of the island, surrounded by natural beauty and pristine beaches. It provides a unique physical, emotional and spiritual retreat.

Accommodation: The resort offers double, single or family guestrooms housed in eco-friendly buildings with solar powered hot water, rainwater harvesting and low energy appliances. Rooms are bright and airy and each has a private sea view balcony, air con, a fridge, writing desk and Wi-Fi internet access.

Facilities: Other facilities include a wellness centre, a calming meditation garden, steam room and healthy juice bar. There is also a refreshing beachside pool and Sattva restaurant offering homemade healthy vegetarian meals in a buffet style setting. Ingredients come fresh from the resort’s own organic garden. Samahita even has its own kids club and babysitting service allowing you to bring the family.

Yoga: Morning sessions begin at 7:30am, before breakfast and focus on meditation and breathing techniques. At 8am the ashtanga style yoga classes begin, there are different classes depending on your level. From 10am-1pm you can help yourself to a brunch buffet. The afternoon is free for you to do what you like. At 5pm you will undertake a restorative yin hatha yoga class focusing on breath work and gentle flow. At 6pm a dinner buffet is served followed by a steam room session. Optional evening videos, talks and meditation will begin at 8pm.

We like: The resort’s extra wellness and detox programs available.

Suited to: Eco-conscious individuals who want plenty of time to relax and do their own thing, as well as the yoga. Also great for families with young children.
