Brits seek sunshine getaway over Easter
Spain is the most popular destination with British families this Easter, according to data released by Carhiremarket.com.
Brits are on the hunt for sunshine this Easter – not only did Spain count for 35 per cent of the car hire company’s bookings between 31st March and 15th April, but other popular bookings included Italy, Cyprus and Portugal. The beach destinations appear to be proving popular with families who have had enough of British winter – and are ready to soak up some European sunshine.
Even when it comes to long haul destinations, the sunny Easter trend is going strong – both the USA and Australia made it into Carhiremarket.com’s top ten destinations for the school holidays.
To celebrate Spain’s position as the top choice for a beach getaway this Easter, the car hire company have reccomeneded the Santander to Oviedo drive as one of the best in the country. The scenic costal route along in the north of the country offers beautiful views of the sea and sand.
Andrew Shorrock, Product Manager at carhiremarket.com, commented: "With the recession biting, but holiday makers still wanting to beat the new year blues and book trips away, hiring a car close to home in Europe is a cost effective way to explore new destinations and popular scenic drives.
A hire car in Barcelona could cost as little as £6 a day and until the end of February, there is up to 42% off car hire in several Spanish locations with carhiremarket.com in conjunction with Alamo."
Europe’s popularity has spurted since last year, when the USA was the second favourite destination for Brits. Spain’s popularity this Easter may be down to its affordability for families.
