Escaping to warmer climes is easy if you shop around for cruise deals

Thursday, 17 November 2011 4:10 PM

If you are longing to escape to warmer countries on a trip of a lifetime, going on a cruise could be ideal for you - and don't be put off by prices, as you could find many cruise deals for less if you simply shop around for them.

Lots of people love the idea of going on a cruise, as you can completely relax aboard a luxury boat where your every need will be taken care of and you'll be transported to idyllic locations where you can see some of the world's most beautiful sights.

If this appeals but you are put off by the idea of spending a lot of money, it is worthwhile taking a look at cheap cruise holidays, as you could find there are more deals available than you think.

By comparing prices on different liners and destinations, you'll be able to determine not just what trips are the cheapest, but which ones offer you the best value for money.

The first thing you should do when choosing a cruise is decide where you want to go. You're likely to save money by opting for destinations that aren't too far away. However, if you have always dreamt of going on a cruise to the Caribbean, for instance, you may want to consider a fly-cruise, which means that you will take a flight to the location before hopping aboard the boat and sailing around the region. You could find that this option is lower-priced, as you won't need to spend as long on the cruise.

However, if you are happy to stay nearer to the UK, you'll still find plenty of beautiful and warm locations to explore by boat. The Mediterranean is home to a number of nations and islands such as Turkey, Italy and Greece where you can make the most of the sunny climes and pristine beaches.

After you have found a place that you would be happy to visit, it is a good idea to look at the finer details of the trip you have located.

Depending on who are you travelling with, you will want different facilities onboard the boat. For instance, if you are going on holiday with your family, you are likely to want to ascertain whether there are enough entertainment venues and amenities for them to keep busy while the boat is moving. Cruises that offer bowling alleys and kids' clubs could be useful in helping you to amuse the youngsters.

Alternatively, should your cruise trip be a romantic break between you and your loved one, you may want to make sure that it has a number of nice restaurants and formal events for you to attend.

Those travelling with kids might be keen on NCL cruises as this liner offers a lot of flexibility and freedom with your holiday. For instance, if you choose its freestyle cruising option, you'll be able to access services including group child sitting, kids' and teens' clubs and a range of different restaurant choices.

Couples looking to indulge in a luxurious experience may like the sound of Silversea cruises. On these trips, you will be able to do things you may not normally do, such as enjoy afternoon tea, go for wine tastings and relax by having spa treatments.

While you may be concentrating on trying to locate the best deals available, it is worth keeping in mind what you would be keen to do on your holiday. Paying more for activities and luxuries you'd like may be worth the extra money, if it will help make your cruise one you'll remember forever.
