Winter sun destinations top travel trends
Winter sun destinations top the travel trends list for September 2010, new figures show.
Skyscanner’s latest flight trends statistics for the month of September reveal that the top three hotspots for British holidaymakers remain Spanish.
Warmer temperatures and flights to Tenerife attracted more interest than Alicante last month, while Malaga took top spot once again.
While winter sun ranked high on the list, searches for flights to New York rocketed. As thoughts turn to winter shopping in the Big Apple, the destination shot up to fourth place.
While Christmas shopping and cityscapes to NYC, Amsterdam and London climbed a few places on the travel trends list, Bangkok rose rapidly up the charts to make it in the top ten.
With the British summer fast becoming a distant memory, flights to sunny Australia saw the highest rise in popularity in September, according to Skyscanner.
Other winter sun destinations such as Mumbai, Delhi and Kuala Lumpur also saw an increase in interest from UK holidaymakers.
The new figures show that while the temperature in the UK is dropping, Brits are looking for sunnier climes to help them get through the cold and dark winter months.
